Zooming In on Security Market – IBJ on Exacq

Indianapolis Business JournalThe Indianapolis Business Journal edition for the week of September 27, 2010, has a feature story on Exacq Technologies entitled Zooming In on Security Market. The article starts out:

Think of video surveillance technology and what comes to mind? Maybe a corporate security officer with a Stacy Keach mustache, squinting behind a blurry TV monitor.

Exacq feature in Indianapolis Business JournalOr, as they do it at Exacq Technologies, an employee whips out his iPhone to reveal thumbnail videos from cameras watching its Fishers headquarters. He taps one box to pull up a full-screen image from a camera atop the roof. Tapping again, he pans and zooms in on the parking lot. Talk about the ultimate app.

“It gives even a small-business owner the ability to manage their business without being on-site,” said Exacq President David Underwood, who co-founded the maker of video management system software and servers.

Among its customers is no less than Apple Computer, which uses Exacq’s video surveillance system at its California campus and in some of its retail stores.

The article is fairly in-depth, with interviews with Exacq customers, industry analysts, and a competitive assessment. One of the Exacq security integrators interviewed was Koorsen Security Technology, a SecurityNet and PSA Security reseller:

For an upstart company to come in and win customers in this segment is no easy feat, said Skip Sampson, vice president of Indianapolis-based Koorsen Security Technology.

Security types tend to be conservative and hard to penetrate with a new brand, he said, explaining that a video surveillance system can last for decades.

“You’re normally married to [a brand] for a long time,” he added.

What’s helped Exacq penetrate the market quickly has been that its top executives have worked for other security firms, Sampson said.

exacqVision integration with Micros 9700 POS System

Micros 9700 integration with exacqVisionWe have just released evMicros, the Micros 9700 HMS Point Of Sale System integration with exacqVision VMS.

The Micros 9700 is a widely used point-of-sale solution in the leisure and entertainment marketplace, and links POS transactions, back office functions, and guest management capabilities. Video surveillance capabilities are included to provide playback of digital video from within the auditing tools.

evMicros.exe, the exacqVision-Micros 9700 integration program, integrates a Windows-based exacqVision system with a Micros 9700 server via the Micros Video Security System Interface. evMicros separates the combined device data from the Micros 9700 server into individual streams for display on the exacqVision system. evMicros runs as a service on the exacqVision system, and each device is configured inside an XML settings file.

evMicros.exe and associated documentation is available for download here.

Denison State BankThere’s another addition to our Case Studies page. Denison State Bank, one of the top 50 largest banks in Kansas, recently installed exacqVision Hybrid video management systems and software at their branches in the state to help protect customers, employees and assets, replacing aging time-lapse VCRs.
