Report from ASIS 2008, Atlanta

Exacq at ASIS 2008The ASIS 2008 tradeshow, held Monday-Wednesday of this week in Atlanta, has ended.  It was a great event for us and our resellers. We showed several new things this year:

exacqVision Version 3.2
This latest version of our software, out in a pre-release form now and final release in a couple of weeks, fully incorporates H.264 support from the newest IP cameras including Axis and Arecont Vision.  We had side-by-side comparisons of both Arecont and Axis H.264 models along with their mjpeg or mpeg4 counterparts running in the software.  We’re impressed with these new cameras, and see more server efficiencies, clearer video, smaller average file size (in some cases significantly smaller) and generally higher frame rates.  Version 3.2 also incorporates the new line of Sony IP cameras, plus several other new features and improvements.  Also connected to the exacqVision systems were the latest cameras from IQeye, ACTi, Panasonic and Vivotek.

Integration: ioimage and Lenel
We showed the ioimage analytics-based IP cameras integrated with exacqVision, a solution that provides analytics options as easily as adding another camera to the network.  A preview of the ioimage integration is here.  We also showed our new Lenel access control integration.

Windows, Linux, Mac
The use of the Macintosh in video surveillance applications has generated a lot of buzz.  exacqVision operates natively on the Mac, as well as Windows and Linux.  There was once again a great amount of interest in our Mac software.  We’ve seen significant adoption of exacqVision by educational institutions who cited the availability of a Mac client as a key factor in their decision.

iSCSI Storage & Serverless Computing
We showed exacqVision working with three of the leading iSCSI storage vendors: Pivot3, Intransa, and DNF Storage.  In the case of Pivot3, we were running our server software on their unit, creating an all-in-one storage/recording system.

While there has been some online chatter about this year’s ASIS traffic being lighter than normal, we saw the opposite.  We had a steady stream of visitors throughout all three days, and often were so busy that we spilled over into Axis’ booth right next to us.  We certainly appreciate our Rep, Distributor and Reseller channel partners who came by, who brought their customers and spent time with us in our booth.

A roundup of integration partner press releases from ASIS is here.  ASIS will be held in Anaheim in 2009 and we’ll be there.

Pictures from our booth are below, with even more pictures here.

Report from Security Canada Atlantic

While we’ve been busy getting ready for ASIS, our Rep in Canada, Security Central, was exhibiting at the Security Canada Atlantic show in Moncton, NB.  They were showing exacqVision with the latest H.264 megapixel cameras from Arecont Vision, and integrated with the Protege Access Control & Intrusion system by ICT, supporting our reseller channel in the eastern Provinces.

Tony Williams of Security Central, reported, “Although Security Canada Atlantic is a smaller regional show, it is always well attended due to the lack of significant security industry events in the territory. We were pleasantly surprised by the traffic and interest in exacqVision. We demonstrated the support for Arecont H.264 cameras as well as exacqVision integration with Integrated Control Technology’s Protégé, a unified access control and intrusion platform. One dealer commented ‘it was worth the trip just to see this’.”

Tony will be exhibiting again at the upcoming Security Canada Central show in Toronto, October 22-23, booth #718.

ioimage and Exacq Announce Technology Partnership

ioimageWe’ve been working with ioimage to add support for their unique analytics-based IP cameras into exacqVision.  Tying the ioimage analytics into exacqVision’s event linking feature produces a compelling analytics-based IP video surveillance system.  Because the analytics are in the edge device, a user can add analytics capability to an exacqVision system whenever and wherever they want; it’s as simple as adding another camera on the network.

The built-in video analytics of ioimage cameras require no additional components for video analysis.  They can simultaneously detect intruders, suspicious unattended baggage, stopped vehicles, and removed/stolen items.  The full range of analytic routines is offered is here.

We’ll be showing ioimage integration with exacqVision in our booth and in the ioimage booth at ASIS next week.

ioimage issued a press release today on the integration:

Report from Security 2008 Australia

Security 2008 AustraliaThe Security 2008 Australia show was held last week at the Sydney Convention Centre.  This is the largest physical security trade show in Australia, and our agent for the entire region, Zone Advanced Protection Systems, had a prominent booth on the show floor.

Zone was showing their full line-up of products, including ICx thermal imaging, intelligent sensors and radar surveillance systems; ioimage video analytic cameras; and ACTi IP video cameras. But certainly a highlight of their booth was the exacqVision IP video surveillance systems combined with the new Arecont Vision h.264 megapixel IP cameras.  These new h.264 compression-based megapixel cameras (Arecont models AV5105, AV3105, AV2105 and AV1305) provide a tremendous benefit in reducing both storage space and network traffic.  Since these cameras have become available, we’re seeing upwards of 10x average file size reduction with the h.264 models vs. the corresponding MJPEG models.

Bill Nolan, Managing Director of Zone, reported that the new cameras with the exacqVision software were a hit: “The customers GOT it and so it made megapixel much more interesting.”  One visitor to the booth said this combination was “the first real megapixel management system I’ve seen.”  The fact that the exacqVision software runs natively on Windows, Linux and Macintosh, as well as browsers and mobile devices, was also a big draw.  Bill summed up the exacqVision response at the show by saying “it was instantly understandable by the trade and will migrate IP systems to the forefront of the buyers mind by its great management of megapixel cameras.”

Our congratulations to the crew at Zone for yet another successful show.  Zone will exhibiting the exacqVision products at two additional trade shows this month, the JAA Australian Jewellery Fair 08 in Sydney next week, and the Security in Government 2008 show in Canberra in two weeks.  Zone can be reached as follows:
