Report from ISC West 2007
The first two days of the ISC West 2007 show are over. We have never had as busy of a booth as we have had here. It has been gratifying to see what an enthusiastic sales channel we have. Our Manufacturers Reps have been actively bringing their Resellers by, our Resellers have been actively bringing their customers by. New business and deals have been closed at this show. There is excitement and buzz about the exacqVision product line. It has been particularly exciting to see the interactivity between our customers and our engineers, as new features and unique applications for the products have been suggested and discussed. So much of what is in the exacqVision product has been customer driven, and we’ve already slated some of these suggestions to be in the next release, Version 2.5, which will probably hit in May.
We have also been busy meeting with current and new IP camera vendors, video analytic vendors, wireless video networking vendors. We will certainly be supporting more of these new products in the near future.
On Wednesday night we hosted an exacqVision Reseller Partner Appreciation Gathering at the Gordon Biersch Brewery. It was a great informal gathering of our Reps, Resellers and prospective Resellers. Many we knew well, some we met for the first time. We certainly appreciate everyone that came and spent the evening with us.
Below are some pictures from the show floor. Additional pictures are on our flickr photo page.

Exacq at ISC West 07 – Back to the Future
The big security conference ISC West starts on Wednesday. Held at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, ISC West is one of the largest gatherings of vendors in the physical security space.
It was one year ago at ISC West that we introduced the exacqVision IP Video Surveillance product line to the world. We began shipping shortly thereafter, and the response since then has been most gratifying. A key focus has been on building great business relationships with IT-savvy security systems integrators. Find the best integrators and focus on supporting them. We got a big boost earlier this year with our official partnership with PSA Security Network and their 200+ integrators. To assist with our field sales and support efforts we have been most fortunate to work with some of the best security Manufacturer Reps in the business. We have developed mutually beneficial relationships with a number of IP camera vendors, including Axis, IQeye, Arecont Vision, Sony, Panasonic, ACTi, and more. We have a number of third-party developers and OEMs working with our technology. We’ve received some great press coverage.
Our goal with exacqVision is to take the mystery, complexity and high cost out of utilizing and deploying IP video surveillance solutions. One low price per video channel, all features included, no complicated pricing strategy, seamless integration with analog cameras, rapid rollout of new features, extreme ease of use, and most of all: a focus on supporting our integrator channel.
We’re back at ISC West again this year. Booth #6049. If you’re coming to the show, please stop by. Here are some pictures of our new booth being configured a couple of weeks ago:
Daylight Savings Time software update reminder
The new, earlier Daylight Savings Time occurred this last weekend. To properly recognize this new DST time, existing exacqVision IP video surveillance servers should be updated to the latest Version 2.3 software.
On Monday we posted a minor update to the Version 2.3 server software that allows for better transparent and seamless video searching during the time change. We recommend downloading the latest version from our website and installing it on all exacqVision servers.
Because of the searching refinements, we recommend this update to all users, even those who downloaded Version 2.3 earlier this month.
The latest version of exacqVision software can be easily downloaded and quickly installed over the existing version, while maintaining all settings and user information.
Download the latest Version 2.3 exacqVision server software here.
Exacq in Network-Centric Security magazine
Our friends at Security Products magazine have launched a new quarterly supplement entitled Network-Centric Security. The inaugural March 2007 issue features an overview article by editor Steven Titch with some quotes from our own Dave Underwood, president of Exacq.
In discussing the advantages of IP cameras over analog cameras, the article states the following:
“IP cameras were once expensive,” says Dave Underwood, president of Exacq Technologies, Indianapolis, another supplier of NVR software. “The cost is coming down.”
Although when compared heads-up, the price of an IP camera can still be $200 to $300 more than an analog CCTV counterpart, total cost of ownership is lower. That IP cameras do not require their own cabling, but can operate on common Category 5 cable or via wireless is one way they offset the cost of proprietary analog, says Fredrik Nilsson, director of business development at Axis Communications, Lund, Sweden, a camera manufacturer. They also run off the new Power over Ethernet capability, further reducing user costs.
Add to that the value they offer through higher resolution and ability to supply images in low-light conditions, “why would you buy analog?” asks Underwood.
You can read the entire article, as well as the rest of the well-done supplement here (PDF file).
exacqVision Version 2.3 Released Today
exacqVision Version 2.3 was released today. This is a fairly substantial update, incorporating new camera support, new features, the DST patch, and numerous performance enhancements and bug fixes. Both the exacqVision Client and the exacqVision Server have been updated to Version 2.3, and the documentation has been updated as well. Highlights of this release include:
New IP Camera Support – ACTi and Panasonic IP cameras are now supported, joining Axis, IQeye, Sony and others.
New IP Camera Finder – An automatic IP Camera Finder is now built into exacqVision. It will scan a network, report back on the cameras found, and automatically add the ones you select into the system. This makes adding IP cameras about as plug-and-play as you can get. And with exacqVision, there is no per-camera licensing issues, no camera MAC address entry required, no DLKs needed to make it work. exacqVision makes working with IP cameras very easy.
DST Patch – exacqVision Version 2.3 incorporates the necessary patch to correct for the new Daylight Savings Times that will occur in 2007.
Search Enhancements – Significant tweaks in exacqVision Search for better performance and more intuitive interaction. Greater reliability for very large video exports, more interactive user feedback during video export process, and more.
exacqVision Version 2.3 client and server can be installed easily and quickly on top of any existing version without affecting any settings or user parameters. Version 2.3 client, server, and User Manual are all available on our Downloads page.
